2020 Home Sales Top 38,000 in the Greater San Antonio Area, According to San Antonio Board of REALTORS® 2020 Housing Trends

Bexar County Showed Greatest Percentage Increase in Home Sales for the Year of Any other Major County in Texas at 11.2 Percent

SAN ANTONIO (January 19, 2021) – San Antonio and its surrounding communities saw increases across all categories for 2020 in its data provided by the San Antonio Board of

REALTORS® (SABOR) which reports on all areas contained within the MLS. There were 38,448 homes sold during the year, which was an 11 percent increase over 2019 (34,581 homes sold).

 “With all that 2020 brought us locally, regionally, nationwide, and worldwide, the end-of-year data certainly showed us continued growth of the housing market,” Xavier Turpin, Realtor at 210 Realty Group. "Bexar County did especially well with 27,855 homes sold. Our city and surrounding areas are attractive places to own a home, both for locals and for transplants, and the numbers prove it."

The average price of homes sold in 2020 was $294,106, with the median price for the year of

$250,100. In all of Texas, the average price was $318,546, with a median of $260,000.

In the greater San Antonio area, there were 44,376 new listings, and in Bexar County specifically, through the year, there were 31,975 new listings. There were 448,793 new listings in the state of Texas in 2020.

*Percentage increases are based on a year-over-year comparison.In the county comparison, Bexar County's increase in home sales showed a 11.2 percent increase (27,855 homes in 2020 vs. 24,936 in 2019), which was a higher percentage increase than the other three major Texas counties. Travis County' home sales increased 3.2 percent (16,672 homes), with Harris County showing a 6.7 percent increase (49,338 homes), and Dallas County displaying a 4 percent increase (22,243 homes). The percentage increase is year over year from 2020 to 2019.
